Larger works of ceramics

Larger works of ceramics

In addition to the small works, I’ve made some larger stuff. By larger I mean ever so slightly. (I can’t throw huge yet.)

My goal is more consistancy right now anyway.

three pots

inside of a pot and an ox blood glaze pot

bottom of a pot

five pots
These are some of my favorites I’ve made so far. I like each one for different reasons. Below explains from the left:

  1. I think this uses the Ox-blood glaze. I was trying to go as thin as possible. This was made at the end of my first class so it isn’t as good in terms of shape consistency, but the glaze turned out cool. Apparently it was in a hot part of the kiln
  2. This one I made at the same time I made #3. These two are supposed to be a comparison of style. I really like both of them. They were exercises in consistency. Obviously, #3 isn’t the same, but I had fun with it.
  3. One of my larger pieces so far. I don’t know why, but it appears taht I over glazed. Lucky that none of it got stuck to the kiln.
  4. This one is, as mentioned earlier, made at the same time #2 was made. I think I got distracted and let a finger go. But this turned out to be a blessing since it allowed me to explore doing non-uniform shapes.
  5. One of the last pieces I made in my first class. I really liked overlapping the Rhodes Black glaze with a clear glaze since the Cobalt would be prominent where it mixed; this makes a nicedark blue color.

Nice view from the clay studio
During one of the nights at the clay studio, I took this shot looking west.
